Symposium for Australasian
Review Authors - ARCHIVE
Brisbane, 2007
Welcome
Each year the Australasian Cochrane Centre hosts a meeting
for Australasian contributors to the Cochrane Collaboration.
This year, to coincide with the major update to the Cochrane
Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions and the release
of RevMan 5, we will be hosting a Symposium for Australasian
review authors in Brisbane, July 12-13.
The program will focus on new methodologies and changes to
the review process that are described in the updated Handbook.
Presenters will provide up-to-date information on specific
changes to the review process allowing time for discussion
on how we can best implement these changes both as review
authors and staff of Cochrane entities and satellites.
The day before the symposium on July 11 there is the opportunity
to attend an introduction to RevMan 5 workshop (available
to symposium registrants only). Please note that the previously
advertised event - the half-day Qualitative Methods Symposium
- has had to be cancelled.
We hope many of you will make the trip to Brisbane and take
the opportunity to get together with other contributors in
an informal and relaxed environment.
Program Highlights
As The Cochrane Library progresses into its 11th year, a major
priority of The Collaboration is to ensure that reviews are
maintained and updated in light of current research. A session
on updating reviews will be presented by our international
invited guest speaker, Rob Scholten (Director of the Dutch
Cochrane Centre and member of the Cochrane Collaboration Steering
Group).
Other topics to be covered in the symposium program include:
• Searching and CENTRAL
• New risk of bias tool
• RevMan 5 and IMS
• Overview of reviews
• Prioritising reviews
• Summary of findings tables
• Diagnostic reviews
• Qualitative methods
• Non-standard study designs
Authors currently working on a Cochrane systematic review
or review update are also encouraged to attend a work-in session
on the last day of the symposium. This is an excellent opportunity
to dedicate some time to your review in the presence of other
review authors and staff from ACC and other local entities.
