The network is designed to support health care policy makers within the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing make best use of evidence in their work. Cochrane and the Evidence- Based Policy Network The Evidence-Based Policy Network will link health care policy makers with The Cochrane Collaboration to ensure an evidence-based policy framework. The Cochrane Collaboration is an international organisation that aims to help people make well-informed decisions about health care by preparing, maintaining and promoting systematic reviews of health care interventions. The Australasian Cochrane Centre receives funding from the Department of Health and Ageing to provide central coordination for The Cochrane Collaboration in Australia. Core activities include providing access to Cochrane systematic reviews and providing training and support to Australasians involved in conducting systematic reviews. Under its current funding agreement, the Centre is expanding its policy liaison role with the Department, with a focus on the National Health Priority Areas. The Centre will provide the Department with regular reports on effective interventions based on Cochrane systematic reviews. It will also assist members in accessing The Cochrane Library and send out bulletins by email to our Evidence-Based Policy Network.
