Cochrane people in cardiovascular disease

Editorial Base
There are four review groups that produce reviews on cardiovascular disease in The Cochrane Library.  The groups and their scope are:

  • The Heart Review Group: primary prevention, acute treatment, secondary prevention and rehabilitation in all forms of heart disease, including ischaemic heart disease, heart diseases more common in developing countries, arrhythmias, valvular and congenital heart diseases
  • The Stroke Review Group: primary and secondary prevention of stroke, the treatment and rehabilitation of stroke patients (including subarachnoid haemorrhage), and the organisation of services for stroke patients
  • The Hypertension Review Group - blood pressure and clinical outcomes for the prevention and treatment of essential hypertension
  • The Peripheral Vascular Disease Review Group - prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for all diseases of the arteries and veins, excluding the heart (remit of the Heart Group), carotid vessels (remit of the Stroke Group), venous ulcers (remit of the Wounds Group) and peripheral vascular diseases in wholly diabetic populations (remit of the Metabolic & Endocrine Disorders Group)

Heart Group

The editorial base for the Heart Review Group is located at the Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol, UK. They are supported by the Department of Health, National Research and Development Directorate UK.  They have also received support from the British Heart Foundation, London (1999 to 2002) UK and Boehringer-Ingelheim UK.

 

Stroke Group
The editorial base for the Stroke Review Group is located at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh. They are supported by the Chief Scientists Office of the Scottish Executive and other sources.

Hypertension Group
The editorial base for the Hypertension Review Group is located at the University of British Columbia, Canada. They are supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Ministry of Health Services, British Columbia Canada and Therapeutics Initiative, Canada.

Peripheral Vascular Disease Group
The editorial base for the Peripheral Vascular Disease Review Group is located at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh.  They are supported by the Chief Scientists Office of the Scottish Executive and other sources.

Australia's contribution 

  • Three Australian editors: Ian Jacobs (Heart Group), Julia Lowe (Heart Group), Graeme Hankey (Stroke Group).
