Veronica Pitt joined the Australasian Cochrane Centre in
2005 as a member of
the health technology assessment team to prepare reviews of
therapeutic
interventions and diagnostic tests for the Medical Services
Advisory
Committee.
With a background in molecular biology, Veronica completed
a PhD in colon
cancer research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre before
making the
transition to health services research. Since joining the
ACC she has been
the project officer for a report commissioned by the Department
of Human
Services Victoria on the impact of hospital
and clinician volume or
specialisation in cancer care. She has also been
project manager of a Public
Health Research Grant for the Department of Human Services
aimed at
identifying the gaps between research and practice in
self-management
of
osteoarthritis. Part of this research is the basis
of a Cochrane systematic
review she is currently authoring with the Cochrane Musculoskeletal
Group.
Veronica is currently a member
of the training team at the ACC. Her role involves providing support
to review authors and facilitating workshops on the
methodological skills required for conducting a Cochrane
systematic review. She is also involved in delivering
presentations to external entities aimed at promoting
the uptake of evidence-based health care and The
Cochrane Library in the broader community.
